Summer Worship Schedule
It's summer, and that means Minnehaha is on its summer schedule for Sunday morning worship. August 1 thru Labor Day: One service only at 10:00 am. Sunday School and regular hours will return on Rally Day, September 12.
Financing Approved for Affordable Housing Project
After more than six years of tireless work, the Deep Roots, New Branches Initiative (Riverview) senior housing development has been awarded $6 million in Housing and Urban Development (HUD) 202 funding.
42 Senior Housing Units
This innovative project will create 42 units of affordable senior housing at East 54th Street and Riverview in the Nokomis East neighborhood—just three blocks from an LRT station and within walking distance to Minnehaha Falls.
Fully Funded
The $8+ million project is now funded thanks to the efforts of the Plymouth Church Neighborhood Foundation, Minnehaha United Methodist Church and Lake Nokomis Lutheran Church.
Still Work to be Done
Much work remains to be done. The building design needs to be finalized with neighborhood input, the city needs to approve rezoning of the property, and the financing from HUD and other funders needs to be closed. But the project is well on its way to becoming a reality.
Thanks to the Plymouth Church Neighborhood Foundation, Minnehaha United Methodist Church, Lake Nokomis Lutheran Church, CommonBond Communities, the City of Minneapolis, MHFA, and Federal Home Loan Bank for their commitment to affordable housing in our neighborhood.
Food Ministry Feeds 1,500 During the Month
Minnehaha is home to the neighborhood Food Shelf. We serve the area between the Crosstown and Lake Street, Cedar Avenue and the river. Each month we serve more than 600 households—about 1,500 men, women and children—and distribute approximately 28,500 pounds of food. It's an incredible mission that relies on volunteers.
The need for food continues to grow. Over the past year, for example, the number of people served at Minnehaha increased 250%.
NEED FOOD? If you know someone in the area in need of food, here are the details:
- Minnehaha Food Shelf is open Tuesdays from 10:30 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.
- Please bring a photo ID with a current address (must reside within the area we serve: between the Crosstown and Lake Street, Cedar Avenue and the river)
- No appointments necessary
- You can be served one time each month
WANT TO VOLUNTEER? If you'd like to volunteer to help with the Minnehaha Food Shelf or food ministries, contact the church office at (612) 721-6231. Good things happen here.
WANT TO DONATE? As Don Cregan says, "Would you like to see a miracle? If you donate $1 it will generate $30 worth of food. Wow!" If you'd like to donate to the Food Shelf or Minnehaha's other food ministries, contact the church office at (612) 721-6231.
Minnehaha Building Project Update
The building project was approved by the Minnesota UMC District and by the congregation of Minnehaha United Methodist Church. We will soon move ahead with key improvements within the church, including a new energy-efficient heating s
ystem, larger welcoming area, upgraded bathrooms, and a weather vestibule. Click here for more information. Good things happen at Minnehaha.
Taizé Worship
Spend abrief hour and renew your spirit with a worship service of music and meditation. Taizé Worship, based
on the teachings of Brother Roger from Taizé France, uses music with "simple" melody lines and periods of silence to quiet the soul and renew the spirit. There is no sermon, just a brief reading and a few questions to consider.
