We are experiencing an unprecedented surge in demand. Between January 2023 and January 2024, the number of clients visiting the food shelf increased by 65 percent. Supporting that demand requires additional volunteers.
We need assistance with unloading trucks, food distribution setup and takedown, inventory management, registering/checking in clients, Spanish-English interpretation, community outreach, volunteer coordination, social media support and other vital tasks. Many volunteer positions require being on-site during our open hours (Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.), but others do not.
“I love to volunteer because it’s fun,” said longtime volunteer Jetta Wiedemeier Bower. “I love the team that I’m on, and I love that we get to have a positive impact on the lives of hungry people. I can’t think of a better use of my time.”
If you're interested in becoming a volunteer — or you would like additional information — please contact us at foodshelfvolunteers@minnehaha.org. Thank you.
Regretfully, we are unable to accommodate drop-in support at this time.
