WE CELEBRATE GOD AND LIFE AND GOOD THINGS

Every day there's something good happening at Minnehaha United Methodist Church. Here are just a few of the events, programs and activities that take place during the year.

Sunday Worship at 9:30 a.m. Plus Taizé Worship
Join us for our 9:30 a.m. worship every Sunday, with a message of God's love and guidance for living out that love. We also have a Taizé worship service at 7:00 p.m. on the third Friday of each month between October and May.

Sunday School
Minnehaha offers thoughtful and engaging classes for all ages Sunday mornings at 10:45 a.m., September through May. We have a wonderful group of children, and an amazing group of volunteers to work with them. This year we're using a Sunday School curriculum published by the Sparkhouse. This curriculum follows the lectionary, the schedule that we will also follow in worship.

Weddings and Baptisms
Weddings and baptisms are celebrations of love and joy and faith, and we're happy to be the place where so many take place during the year. Each wedding at Minnehaha UMC is a sacred covenant that brings together family and friends to witness and bless a couple's marriage vows. Baptism is the act of initiation and incorporation into the universal church of Jesus Christ, The United Methodist Church, and the congregation of Minnehaha United Methodist Church.

Music for All Ages
Music plays an essential role in our services. Our traditional service is enriched by a Chancel Choir, hymns and piano and organ music. Our contemporary service features a wide range of "electric" musical styles, including jazz, reggae, rock, folk and more. Children at Minnehaha participate in music as part of the Sunday School hour, and occasionally sing in worship. You'll find your voice at Minnehaha.

Summer Garden Parties
Every summer we set aside time for three get-togethers to share food and fellowship outside. (Weather permitting.)

All-church Christmas Pageant
Every year we have an original all-church Christmas pageant that tells the story of Christ's birth through words, scripture, music and familiar Christmas hymns. All the children and youth of the church participate. They are Jesus, Mary, Joseph and Gabriel, as well as stars, animals, shepherds, angels, kings & queens and camels.

Thursday Morning Playgroup for Children
Children five and under—and their caregivers—are invited to spend Thursday mornings from 9:30 – 11:30 a.m. at what we call "Minnehaha Playgroup." They gather in the Minnehaha Childcare Room to play, talk, explore, support and learn together. During the summer, they meet at area parks when the weather is nice.

Home to the Minnehaha Food Shelf
The Minnehaha Food Shelf provides much-needed food for more than 600 households in our community every month. It is supported by volunteers from Minnehaha United Methodist, St. James Episcopal and Lake Nokomis Lutheran churches.

Annual Auction
Every March, we gather in our Fellowship Hall to auction the talents and crafts and creativity of our congregation. Auctioneer Col. Brad Pederson makes this a great entertainment and a way to support the missions, programs and staff of the church.

Harvest Homecoming Dinner
In the fall, the church hosts a dinner and concert for the congregation and community that features a homestyle dinner, dessert and special music.

Home for Great Organizations
Minnehaha UMC is home to a wide range of groups and organizations, including United Women of Faith (UWF), Scouts (Troop 1), Fun and Fitness (Exercise), Taleweavers Toastmasters, Overeaters Anonymous, Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) and more.

Minnehaha Winter Retreat
Each year, people from Minnehaha UMC travel north to Lake Koronis Assembly Grounds in Paynesville, Minnesota. For the weekend, we leave our busy schedules behind and gather together for fellowship, relaxation, learning and worship. Outdoor activities include broomball, ice skating, cross country skiing. Indoor activities include basketball, volleyball, ping pong, singing, and more. As the brochure says, "No cooking, no washing dishes, no housework. Personal hygiene is optional."

Vacation Bible Camp
Vacation Bible Camp combines two other churches: Lake Harriet UMC and Richfield UMC and takes place in June at Lake Harriet UMC. VBC is for children from the age of three up to the fifth grade. Children make their own art projects, sing music, explore science activities, stay active and learn how God's amazing love works in our lives.

Music & Drama Camp and Theater Camp
Music & Drama Camp and Theater Camp are in August. Music & Drama camp is for children who have completed kindergarten through fifth grades. Participants work together on all aspects of an original musical production and perform it in front of an audience on the last day. Theater camp is for students who have completed fifth through twelfth grades. They will explore improv, playwriting, making short-videos, and acting. Performance for an audience will be on the last day.

A Partnership with Mandala Montessori Preschool
Minnehaha UMC is also home to Mandala Montessori, a pre-school for children 33 months to six years that is faithful to the Montessori philosophy. Mandala Montessori offers a pre-school and child care environment that facilitates and nurtures the development inherent in every child.

A Partnership with M. Mazvydas Lithuanian Heritage School
On Saturday mornings during the school year, Minnehaha UMC becomes a place of cultural, music and language learning and celebration to the Lithuanian community in the Twin Cities.

Celebrate with us! We make good things happen.
